Audio Excerpts: “Christ and the Local Churches” • 2009 Labor Day Weekend Conference

These excerpts are from the 2009 Labor Day weekend conference in Troy, Michigan.

This conference was a further development of what brother Titus had shared in the summer training of that year on "Seeing Christ and the Churches." It consisted of five messages, and was based, especially in the first two messages, on the Lord's word in Matthew 13:45-46:

Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a merchant seeking fine pearls; and finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

If we really see the treasure the Lord is after, and how the Lord gave Himself in order to gain this "one pearl of great value," then we will follow the Lord to give ourselves for His church. To gain such an inheritance as this is truly the meaning of our life. May the Lord have His way!

Following that, brother Titus considered the four basic ministries we see in the apostolic era: The ministries of James, Peter, Paul, and John, with a special emphasis on the ministry of John. Finally, he ends with a consideration of the Lord's concluding word in the Bible, i.e., His message to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3.

Audio Excerpts: Christ and the Churches • Message One

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

In this message brother Titus focused on Matthew 13:45-46:

Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a merchant seeking fine pearls; and finding one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Do we really see the value of this “pearl?” Do we see how the Lord gave Himself to gain this “one pearl of great price?” It is not simply a matter of going to heaven, but that we, who are fallen sinners, can become God’s unique treasure in the universe! If we do see this, we will surely follow the Lord to give ourselves for the building up of His church. (more…)

Audio Excerpts: Christ and the Churches • Message Two

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

The church declares the “mystery of God” which is Christ in us (Col. 1:27, 2:2). Thus, when people contact us, they should really sense that there is something so precious with us.

Our life is a life of preparing us for our mutual inheritance with God, so we should always consider whether taking a certain way or doing a certain thing will bring us more into this inheritance. This will bring us into a rich experience of Christ. We will realize that our lives are for nothing but Christ, and this realization will govern all of the practical decisions we make concerning our life. (more…)

Audio Excerpts: Christ and the Churches • Message Three

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

This message gives us an overview of the four basic ministries in the New Testament age, as depicted in the four main apostolic ministries in the New Testament. James’ ministry was simply to be martyred, to give his life for Christ; this is the base for all New Testament ministry. Peter’s ministry was a ministry of gaining the material for God’s building, Paul stressed the riches of Christ to furnish the saints with Christ, and John focused on the life element of the church.

In particular, the experience of the apostle John shows us how we need to submit to the Lord’s arrangement, even when He sets us aside, if we desire to one day be used by Him. (more…)

Audio Excerpts: Christ and the Churches • Message Four

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

The first part of this message continued to consider the unique life of John, and how the Lord sovereignly arranged his life so that he could be prepared to minister the riches that we see in his writings, as well as to care for the churches as a brother who was mature in life.

Then he considered the vision we see of the Lord Jesus Christ in Revelation One: He is both the Alpha and the Omega and our great High Priest, the one who cares for us in every way. He also began to consider the seven golden lampstands, and how they show us the oneness of the church in each locality. (more…)

Audio Excerpts: Christ and the Churches • Message Five

Monday, September 7th, 2009

In the concluding message of this conference, brother Titus covered the Lord’s word to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3. When we consider this word from the standpoint of our experience in the church life today, we see that it provides us with some very important lessons. Eventually, the Lord’s concluding word is to tell the church to “pay a price” to gain the real things. (more…)
